M.Sc. in Counselling and Family Therapy (MSCCFT)

IGNOU Master of Science (Counselling and Family Therapy) programme details

The goal of the M.Sc. programme in Counselling and Family Therapy is to train professionals in this important field, which is becoming more important in society and in the job market right now. In today's society, people need and want professional help in the form of counselling and family therapy more than ever. Counselling and family therapy are becoming more and more recognised as effective ways to promote positive things like strengthening family ties, fostering positive parenting, and increasing the resilience of people in vulnerable situations, as well as to deal with negative things like socio-psychological problems, maladaptive behaviours, and depression. But there aren't enough counsellors and family therapists, even though the need for them is growing. This is because there aren't enough professionals who can help families work together in a positive way and help each family member who is in trouble in a complete way. Because of this, there is a huge need in this area for education and training. This unique programme of study would help to train professionals in the field of Counselling and Family Therapy by giving them the knowledge, understanding, attitudes, and skills they need. This would prepare them for both wage-based work and self-employment, filling the current gap.
One of the most interesting things about this programme of study is that it puts a lot of emphasis on the practical side and gives students lots of chances to get hands-on experience. In fact, almost half of the credits in this Master's Degree Program are set aside for learning opportunities that are focused on real-world use. In the second year of the programme, the learner can choose to be trained in Marital and Family Therapy and Counselling, Child and Adolescent Counselling and Family Therapy, or Substance Abuse Counselling and Family Therapy. The programme also has a P.G. Diploma in Counselling and Family Therapy as an exit point for students who finish the first year courses successfully (PGDCFT). Theory, supervised practicum, internship, and a dissertation are all parts of the programme.
