How to Prepare for IGNOU Exams?

After Taking Admission:

Before Your Exam:

  • Fill the Exam Form: This is a very important step without which you cannot give the exams. Students can choose exam centres anywhere in the country! However, make sure to choose correctly as this cannot be updated later. Exam forms are typically released one month before your scheduled exam. For June exams, it is released in May.   • Download and Print the Hall Ticket: You must download and print your hall ticket/admit card 3 days after you fill in the examination form. This is critical as you will not be allowed into the examination hall without this. Download your Hall Ticket Now.

  • Keep your ID Card Ready: Your ID Card is essential to gain entry into the examination hall. Download and print your IGNOU ID card and take it along with you to the exam. It does not need to be laminated or colour print. A simple black and white printout should suffice. You can download your ID card from the Admission Portal or the Student Portal.

  • Make sure you have the Latest Date Sheet: To plan your exam and schedule effectively, you must check the date sheet. Be sure to check the revised and updated date sheet if you have only seen the tentative sheet as there might be changes to the schedule. During Your Exam:

In order to get the best marks, try to make your answer as neat and presentable as possible. The following points can serve as a guideline while writing your answers:

  • Write smaller paragraphs & leave a line after each paragraph for better readability.

  • Divide your answer into logical sub-headings

  • Wherever applicable, divide each sub-heading into smaller points.

  • Underline each sub-heading with a pencil.

  • Begin each question on a new page.

  • Use telegraphic headings wherever possible.


After Your Exam:

  • Cross-check your answers with other students.

  • Wait for the Results to be announced. It usually takes two months to get the results.
