PGD in New Literature in English (PGDNLEG)

IGNOU Post Graduate Diploma in New Literature in English programme details

Several courses in postcolonial studies and new literatures are covered in this The Post Graduate Diploma in New Literatures in English. Through the study of significant/representative texts, we hope to introduce students to some of the major new literatures while demonstrating the depth of these literatures and their parallels and contrasts by connecting them to advancements in critical theory. Additionally, we want to demonstrate how these literatures are characterised by historical, social, and political constraints as well as how ethnic circumstances affect them. We read works of literature from South Asia, the Caribbean, Australia, and Canada, among other places. The Australian Literature course discusses the nation's multiculturalism, introduces students to Australia's early settlers and their writings, and recounts the beginnings of the settlers, the writers who established the foundation of the nation's literature, as well as the problems they faced. The programme then immerses the students in the world of 20th-century Canadian literature by teaching them about Margaret Atwood's life and works, French-Canadian writing, the Canadian novel, South Asian Diaspora writing in Canada, the development of Canadian Criticism, and the contexts of Canadian writing. Finally, we examine literary theory and criticism, which has been an essential component of curricula in colleges and universities around the world since classical times. This includes romantic critique, new criticism, feminist ideas, deconstruction, and modern theories.
