The Department of Land Resources, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, provided assistance in developing this programme. The goal of the Diploma in Watershed Management is to provide qualified human resources for the development and management of watersheds. It aims to disseminate fundamental information and abilities in areas such as soil erosion control, integrated farming systems, animal husbandry, agroforestry, capacity building for watershed development programmes, long-term socioeconomic development of the society, and water harvesting, conservation, and utilisation. It also aims to develop communication and extension skills. It will give the fundamental knowledge of the many tasks carried out during the creation of watersheds. The diploma programme also aims to address the watershed management industry's need for skilled labour, with a particular emphasis on improving the knowledge and abilities of current Integrated Watershed Management Program staff (IWMP). Rural youth and social workers/volunteers who collaborate with NGOs or government officials to undertake watershed development programmes are among the target group's members.
