PGC in Medical Management of CBRNE Disasters (PGCMDM)

Chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive is referred to as CBRNE. Accidental disasters using these chemicals are possible. However, when intentionally employed, they are transformed into weapons of mass destruction. CBRNE disasters are poorly understood, diagnosis is challenging, and there aren't many methods for managing them, including medical management. The undergraduate programme does not provide the specialised knowledge and skill set needed for medical management of CBRNE crises. CBRNE strikes are very dangerous for India. Therefore, in order to handle them, society and governments need to provide special preparations. In light of the aforementioned information, IGNOU has created a 6-month PG Certificate programme in Medical Management of CBRNE disasters for MBBS doctors through open and distance learning in collaboration with Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS), Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), and active support from Integrated Defence Staff (IDS). The learner should be able to describe the effects of chemical, radiological, biological, explosive, and nuclear agents on human health, evaluate the health effects of a CBRNE scenario using external and internal assessment tools, and discuss medical countermeasures, detection equipment, and SOPs of medical management of CBRNE threats after completing the programme. Additionally, it intends to provide first aid and launch lifesaving responses immediately after a CBRNE disaster, to build skills in protection, mitigation, and medical management of CBRNE casualties, and to raise awareness of existing R&D projects and potential future paths.
