Certificate in Phlebotomy Assistant (CPHA)

The goal of the short-term, skill-based Phlebotomy Assistant programme is to create a pool of qualified workers who may be hired by diagnostic and healthcare service providers to assist pathologists and medical laboratory technologists. This curriculum focuses on developing the abilities needed to take accurate blood samples from patients, store them, and transport them to a lab for testing. Phlebotomists are increasingly in demand due to the diagnostics and laboratory chains' rapidly expanding markets. The position of phlebotomy assistant can also serve as a stepping stone for applicants who are considering a career in medical laboratory sciences; however, in order to advance in the area, phlebotomy assistants must complete the required higher level training. The program's goal is to prepare students to be competent in performing skills such as collecting, storing, transporting, receiving, accepting or rejecting, and storing blood; practising infection control procedures such as collecting, sorting, storing, moving, and disposing of biomedical waste in the lab or unit; maintaining personal hygiene and using personal protective equipment (PPE) at work; and demonstrating basic life support (BLS).
